Alperton

Started life as Perivale-Alperton in 1903 and dropped the double barrel to become just ‘Alperton’ in 1910. Cyril M Harris discounts the possibility of the name being derived from ‘apple farm’ and instead traces the origin to the personal name Ealhbeart and the Old English word ‘Tun’, meaning farm: so Ealhbeart’s Tun becoming Alperton over time. Sounds as convincing as anything else. The original station, which was really just a hut, was replaced by a one of Charles Holden’s splendid creations in 1931 when the line was transferred to the Piccadilly.
